I am an experienced English teacher with over two decades of classroom experience teaching 8th-12th grade English, Literature, Advanced Placement, Writing, Grammar, Creative Writing, and Journalism. I have a bachelor's and master's degree from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and I tutor grades 9 through early college.
I'm passionate about English and young people, striving to instill that passion in everyone I'm fortunate enough to teach. I am adaptive, flexible, and masterful in my field, and I endeavor to help students blossom into more skilled versions of themselves. Learning is a dynamic process, and I adjust my process to the needs of the individual students.
One of my favorite "success stories" is a talented athlete I taught three years ago who needed to raise her ACT score substantially to be considered academically by the Southeastern Conference schools who were pursuing her. When we focused her attention on ACT English rules and conventions, she was eventually able to raise her score significantly, allowing her to enroll in her top school choice with a sizable athletic and academic scholarship.
Living in the woods, I spend lots of time outdoors hiking and with my faithful German Shepherd, Vincent Von Jefferson. I'm a voracious reader, and I write daily, whether it's one of my blogs, academic analysis, or working on various pieces of fiction.
