I am a certified teacher with multiple years of experience in the classroom teaching English Language Arts to students of all ages. I have a bachelor's degree from Elizabethtown College and I tutor from school age to adulthood.
I am an enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about not only English, but the success of each individual in the pursuit of their goals. I adapt my teaching style to the needs of my students and ensure that they feel welcomed, safe, and energized in the learning environment I create. I strive to do my best to meet the learner where they are at, whether that be at the beginner level, expert level, or any level in between. I hope to empower my students with the confidence and skills they need to conquer any task. My end goal is to let everyone know that they matter and can achieve whatever it is that they desire.
One of my favorite success stories is when I helped an 11th grade student not only improve his writing skills, but go from despising English to pursuing a career around English in college. This student was struggling with a memoir assignment for his English class and refused to do any work because he saw the assignment as "pointless." By working with him to cater the assignment more towards his interests and helping him with the foundational skills he was struggling with, he ended up confidently finishing his assignment before the deadline. The student felt so proud of what he created that he reconnected with a loved one he had lost contact with, his uncle, to show him the memoir and how much of an impact he had on his life. After reconnecting with this loved one, the student saw the power that his voice could have and came back to me two years later to tell me about the ongoing relationship they now had. That student also expressed to me enthusiastically that he now knew what he wanted to do with his career and was pursuing a degree in writing at the college he was attending.
I have many hobbies and interests! I am a very big fan of plants, dogs/animals, D&D, video games, corn mazes, anime, stickers, pins, acrylic stands, reading, traveling, conventions, music, and YouTube. I am currently propagating a lot of succulents, working my way through One Piece, playing a firbolg druid, and thriving in Minecraft.
