For over a decade, I have been serving as a mathematics instructor at a two-year college, where I have had the privilege of teaching and guiding students through a variety of mathematical concepts. My academic background includes a Master of Science degree in Mathematics, which I earned from the College of Charleston. In addition to my teaching experience at the collegiate level, I also offer tutoring services for students ranging from ninth grade through college, helping them develop a deeper understanding of mathematical principles and build their confidence in the subject.
Mathematics can be a source of anxiety for many students, so one of my top priorities as an instructor is to cultivate a relaxed and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process. I recognize that every student is unique, with their own individual learning styles, strengths, and challenges. Because of this, I make a conscious effort to tailor my teaching approach to best suit the needs of each student, ensuring they receive instruction in a way that resonates with them. Additionally, I strongly believe that the best way to truly understand mathematics is through active engagement and hands-on practice. Therefore, if you choose to work with me, you can expect to work through numerous examples and problem-solving exercises, as I find that this approach helps reinforce key concepts and build confidence in mathematical skills.
One of the most rewarding experiences in my teaching and tutoring career was working with a university student who was struggling with his Calculus I course. He had always found math challenging and was feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of the material. From the very beginning, I made it a priority to provide him with constant encouragement, helping him build confidence in his own abilities. I also emphasized the importance of hands-on practice, guiding him through numerous examples and problem-solving exercises to reinforce key concepts. Through his dedication and perseverance, combined with our focused tutoring sessions, he not only managed to successfully complete the course but also exceeded his own expectations by earning an impressive final grade of a B. Seeing his growth and achievement was an incredibly fulfilling moment for me, and it reinforced my belief in the power of patience, practice, and a supportive learning environment.
In my spare time, I like running, playing guitar, watching college football, and spending time with my wife and kids.
