I am a recent college graduate with a few years of education experience in college and elementary school classrooms teaching math and physics. I have a bachelor's degree in physics with a concentration in astrophysics from San Francisco State University and I tutor grades 7-12.
I am an understanding and enthusiastic teacher, passionate about exploring math concepts together in a curious and comfortable way. I adapt my teaching style to the student's needs and consider the student's relationship with the topic and how best to approach problem-solving techniques to form a lasting foundation for future applications. I enforce the topics we learn together by practicing various approaches and reviewing them to help train the brain into a steady state of mastery and comprehension for every application.
One of my favorite success stories is when I helped a shy fifth-grade student find confidence in math and in the group work environment. During the pandemic, elementary students had an increasingly hard time transitioning to the fully remote environment and needed extra attention for intensive sections in the curriculum. When we first started tutoring, the student struggled with basic fraction and decimal multiplication and division, showing hesitation when expressing answers to the problems we were working on. After meeting once a week for a single term, they grew more comfortable explaining problems to their classmates and reviewing topics learned in previous tutoring sessions. By the end of our tutoring journey, as they transitioned into middle school, their teacher expressed a noticeable improvement in math proficiency and a more confident presence in the classroom.
When I am not tutoring, I am going on hikes, road trips, rock climbing, doing yoga, and playing pick-up soccer games with friends. I love to be creative with various artistic mediums, like making sculptures, crocheting, writing poetry, and making songs, in my free time.
