Teaching is my second career after being an Actuary, although my first job was tutoring in my college math lab. I taught high school for seven years, before moving to college, specializing in "developmental" math. I can help you with fractions, decimals, and percentages as well as differential and integral calculus - and everything in-between.
I need to know how you are thinking so I can explain things the way you will understand. I ask guiding questions until we find your level. When appropriate I will give you specific guidance to move you forward, but it's better when you figure it out yourself. The best method is the method you understand. I also emphasize appropriate memorization and can help you memorize (even if if you think that is impossible).
I've been tutoring a young lady studying for her entrance exam for nursing school. Even though I am a math person, we worked through reading, grammar, and vocabulary as well as the math. She resisted using proportions for conversions, and nearly broke down when I tried multipliers (the Chemistry method - unit analysis). So I invented a new method just for her, after she failed the first time. She passed the second time!
I love video games and old movies. I still read actual books from the library, and I live on British mysteries. My husband, a retired cowboy, and I try to get to the mountains whenever possible, spending most of the summer camping (when I'm not tutoring).
