About Me

I am a certified History/Social-Sciences and English teacher with over 5 years of instructional experience in creating inclusive and culturally responsive classrooms through project-based learning, socio-emotional learning, differentiated instructions, and adept use of education technology in schools in order to enhance engagement. I have a proven track record in curriculum development and tutoring. I am dedicated to fostering critical thinking and community involvement. I have a Bachelor's degree in Integrated Marketing & Communications from Pepperdine University and a Master's in Education from Stanford University. I tutor grades 8th through 12th.

Tutoring Style

I am a very energetic and enthusiastic teacher and tutor; I absolutely love the Humanities and am passionate about everything under that umbrella (examples include modern American literature, World War 2 history, ancient Japanese history, classic British literature, geography, economics, etc.). My teaching style is very warm and focused on making sure my student feels safe and like they understand what they need to know through patience and persistence. I aim to create structures and models for my students to use in and out of the classroom when learning new content or skills. I work on making sure my students can reflect on their thinking in order to apply it to their studies; instead of telling the students the answer, I help them gain the tools and techniques to figure it out so they can use that elsewhere as well!

Success Story

One of my absolute favorite success stories is my experience teaching a student through a volunteer tutoring opportunity via the non-profit education organization known as 826 Valencia, in San Francisco, CA. My student was struggling in her English literature elective class because she was also a student who was in the ELD (English Language Development) program at her school. Thus, she didn't feel very confident in her reading and writing abilities. I helped her hone her skills and raise her confidence by having her practice reading comprehension exercises (such as Read - Recite - Review - Reflect) on short stories or graphic novels in topics or authors she was interested in (such as works by young Latino authors). Through the aforementioned, I was also able to get her to write about the topics (as she was enthusiastic about them) and thus increase her engagement. She was able to pass the class with a solid A!

Hobbies & Interests

I love to play video-games! I love spending time with my friends (we play board-games, watch movies, and eat a lot of good food in San Francisco!). I am a huge nerd and I love things like graphic novels, anime, and video games. However, I also love taking my fitness seriously and I religiously lift weights and do cardio around 3 - 4 times a week. In my spare time, I love writing poetry and watching art-house films (hello A-24!).
