I started tutoring while in college in the early 1990's. I received a Bachelors in Mathematics from UT-Austin. I tutor high school and undergraduate college students in math, science, and test prep.
As a tutor, I want to create a space where students feel comfortable asking questions, and confident they are being heard. I do believe one must work to excel in academics, but work can be more enjoyable as part of a team. As a tutor my goal is to have a positive impact on the lives of the students with whom I work. No magic wand will put the power of learning solely in my hands, but students that come to me prepared to work will find me a valuable resource and an enthusiastic ally.
Over the years I've been able to enjoy many individual success stories. Mostly I enjoy seeing students move from low confidence in a subject, to one of great confidence. Most changes of that nature do not happen overnight, but sometimes it just takes the right explanation to see dramatic turnarounds in one's thinking, and a corresponding rapid turnaround in one's grades. However, it is important to remember that learning is a back and forth process: attempts at exercises, and feedback. One should never fear making mistakes. It's all part of the process.
Aside from tutoring, I live pretty simply. I enjoy playing disc golf, furthering my own education, getting together with friends and family, and the like. I also enjoy generating digital art, mostly abstract works using MSPaint, but also math generated graphics using Desmos.
