I have been tutoring the SAT over the past decade plus and have been witness to its continued evolution. Although the exam has experienced structural changes, much of the core principles it tests remain the same. I love helping students decode the exam and develop an appreciation for the strategic thinking it requires. One of the main benefits to SAT prep with me is learning how to cut through the noise and intimidation of the “big, bad SAT” and other standardized tests.
I apply tried and true techniques that help students master navigation of the current SAT while adapting my approach based on individual student needs. There is a heavy insistence on subject matter mastery, timed practice tests and questions.
I recently worked with a student who felt very discouraged after scoring low on his previous SAT. He was not very motivated and had a lot of negative self talk during our first few sessions. Through encouragement and consistency, we were able to discover the underlying issue with how he was approaching the questions. Once he realized it was a strategy issue - not an intelligence issue - the spark came back. He began to engage and his enthusiasm increased tremendously. His practice scores increased, and when he took his exam, he scored well above his desired score. In fact, all of the students I have tutored for SAT in 2024 that have taken their exam has surpassed their desired score.
I love spending time in nature and traveling. If I had it my way that's probably what I'd be doing most of the time. I also love viewing, being and making art. I model, create pottery, paint, and all sorts of other miscellaneous inspirations.
