My student’s know me as “That lady who knows how to break down math.” Parents will say, “She made my child confident in math.” I characterize myself as someone who thrives on the “ah-ha” moments and loves to make challenging math concepts relatable.
I work with ages 12-120!
I tutor by first figuring out what the student already knows, then what the student does not know and why. Is it an intellectual or fear-based unknowing? Finally, I bridge the gap in a way that accommodates the tutees learning styles.
One of my students was determined to be an excellent mathematician. He struggled with both ADHD and dysgraphia and had no ideas of learning and attention techniques to be successful. He frequently got in trouble for not focusing in class and for submitting incomplete assignments. After a few months of introducing tools for focus and strengthening weak areas, he is now the center of attention in class for GOOD REASONS! He now shares with the class effective math strategies, because he has strategies in places for focus and comprehending grade level math material.
I like to box as a form of exercise and I enjoy cutting grass.
