Hello everyone, and thank you for checking out my profile! I have been a teacher for over 20 years, and I am certified to teach in Texas. I have taught all subjects, mostly math and science for the middle grades. I have a master's degree from Texas Tech University, and I enjoy tutoring grades 4-9.
I like to be enthusiastic when I teach, and I translate that to the tutoring environment. I look to engage my students and often vary activities and approaches to topics. I meet the student where they are and work together with them to help them with their learning objectives or difficulties. I love it when the student asks questions or asks to repeat to understand better. My goal is to make learning fun and as simple as I possibly can.
One experience I have had that I could call a success story was when I got to teach an autistic student in 7th grade. Their parent had mentioned their child struggled with math. By the end of that school year, the students had expressed how surprised they were that they were understanding math, and were able to make an A on that class. Throughout the next year, their parent mentioned how their child had turned around in math and how they no longer feared the subject. They expressed how grateful they were for the way I worked with their child to help change their perspective of math.
I enjoy painting, playing the guitar and ukulele, and running. I also like to spend time working on our property cleaning, planting, feeding our chickens and dogs, and anything else that may need to be done that is within my abilities and skills.
