I am an English Language Arts teacher. To me, grammar and literature are such beautiful realities of the language that I want more students to treasure and master. I am one of Cambridge University's CELTA certified ESL teachers with years of experience in various settings. I tutor grades 3 through college.
I am an engaging teacher who uses humor and simplicity to prompt speaking and writing activities. I make reading and listening practice interesting and fascinating through varied and paced learning interactions. Essentially, I aim for mastery and fluency amongst my students through sustained practice and customizable lessons.
One of my favorite success stories is when I helped a middle school student recognize the dynamics of literary devices often found in late 19th century American English. This particular student was in danger of not reaching his 8th grade school year prepared for the Common Core. I found ways to inspire him. He became more confident in his work, and thus he took a stronger interest in reading a variety of texts, talking about them, and writing about them.
I enjoy reading classical English literature and analytical pieces on morality, law, and social development. When I am not tutoring I am drawn toward sustainable farming and food-crafting with fowl, heirloom vegetables and fruits, livestock, working on ferments, breads, and dairy. I have lived and traveled through parts of Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. I hope to trek through Central and East Asian countries over the coming years with an assortment of social media connections and tech gadgetry to test out.
