I am a tutor with a bachelor of science in chemistry from the University of Dallas and with experience in the application of science and math in the research industry. I tutor grades 4 to first-year college, with experience in tutoring not only math and science but reading and humanities subjects as well.
I have a passion for learning a broad variety of subjects and can use that knowledge to find common interests and build a rapport with students. With that relationship, I like to build up the subject with real-world examples to show how what we learn can be applied to their interests. I am adaptable to student learning styles and needs. I enjoy focusing on the process of solving a question and building a strategy to apply across the subject.
One success story of mine that stands out is with a 6th-grade student who was struggling with math and reluctant to work on their homework or practice questions. During sessions, we worked on not only how to work with their specific questions, but how to tackle new questions we haven't covered. After seeing them progress significantly, they came to me to say that they no longer dread math and feel comfortable working on questions by themself!
One of my favorite hobbies is reading! I love to learn new facts and occurrences in non-fiction and discover new worlds and characters in fantasy and sci-fi! One particular interest of mine is languages and word origins to see where words come from and what they mean. I also enjoy crafting and I am always planning my next project.
