I am a certified math teacher and taught in the classroom for over 9 years. I taught at a virtual school for 4 years. I enjoy working with students one on one to help them understand difficult concepts. One of my favorite subjects to tutor is Pre-Algebra, although I tutor grades 1-10. I earned my bachelor's degree from Northwest Missouri State University and my master's degree from Iowa State University.
I am a passionate teacher, and I care about all of my students' success! I individualize teaching methods to meet my students' needs. If a concept isn't clicking, I quickly pivot and use different techniques to ensure each student can understand the concept in a way that makes sense to them. I want to make sure that all of my students understand the 'why' of each concept. When students know the 'how' as well as the 'why', they are able to remember how to complete tasks well after mastering them. I foster a positive learning environment for all of my students and cultivate confidence in each student that I work with.
One of my favorite success stories is when I worked with a student who had fallen behind in her math standards by more than one grade level. I met with that student for two hours three times per week. We worked hard to fill in the gaps of her math knowledge. I explained concepts and taught standards that she didn't remember or didn't understand and was able to help her build her math knowledge from where her current standing was. We also heavily focused on math vocabulary and she was better able to understand word problems. In six months she was back on pace and able to pass her current grade level in math!
When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy reading, spending time with my family, and baking with my sourdough starter!
