I teach students how to learn, how to become critical thinkers and endow in them an eagerness to create. I have a master's degree in mathematics from North Dakota State University and I'm in the process of completing my dissertation in mathematics there. I tutor grades 1-College.
I first get to know my student by asking various questions and sharing things about myself - this is to gauge our similarities/differences. I use what the student says to tailor an environment in which they can work best. Through trial and error I’ve gotten better at this. For instance, if they seem to have very high energy, but also unengaged in our initial conversation, I’d be sure to have no idle time in our instruction. I’d also make sure to have them do a good bit of talking and/or be moving about in an activity.
I helped a 10th grader study to pass the College Algebra CLEP exam and he earned college credit as a 10th grader.
I love basketball, kickboxing and cycling.
