Good day everyone. I have worked in some capacity (assistant and lead teacher) in education for about 18 years. I earned my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2020. Most of my teaching experience has revolved around ELA, Math, and SEL considering I work in Early Childhood Education. I tutor from Pre-K to grade 4.
As a teacher, I am dedicated and committed when it comes to the academic growth and development of my students. I do like to get to know whom I am working with first, and then incorporate some of those things that I have learned into the lesson if possible. I want the student that I am working with to feel comfortable and not be overwhelmed or pressured while working on their lessons. I am very enthusiastic as a teacher and want to create an atmosphere where my students look forward to coming to their sessions with me.
I worked with a younger student who was in Pre-K. I had never worked with this student before, but they had been a client of this business for a while and the business had had difficulties keeping this student motivated. They paired the student with me, and the student was reluctant to speak with me, when they did speak, they immediately began complaining about disliking coming to their sessions and how they did not want to be there. I began talking to the students hoping to get to know them, and once I felt the student was a bit more comfortable, I decided to start the lesson. The student did not want to participate, so I started the lesson by purposely misidentifying what was going on in the pictures for the lesson. The student realized I, the teacher, was wrong and began to correct all of my wrong answers...and that was the beginning of our tutoring relationship. They paired the student with me from then on, and the student was always excited and enthusiastic about coming to our sessions. For me, it helped my confidence as an educator, but more importantly, that student looked forward to our sessions and learning which meant a great deal to me.
When I have any downtime, I love to read. I would read all day if I could. I grew up going to the library and checking out up to 20 books at a time. Books like, "The Babysitter's Club", "The Boxcar Children", The Berenstain Bears", "Sweet Valley High", etc. I just love to read. I also like to sleep as well. I don't get to enjoy that hobby as much during the school year, but just resting and relaxing is a wonderful hobby for me. I also am a huge fan of sports (watching it). My favorite sport to watch is gymnastics. I have been a fan since I saw my first competition on television in 1993. I have followed the sport since then and have never missed a competition. I also am a fan of all of the Chicago sports teams...especially the Chicago Sky.
