I love helping students build confidence in themselves. Every student can be successful and thrive in math. I work with my students to find their specific style of learning so I can cater lessons to their specific needs. I start by ensuring the basic foundation of number sense is strong with my students and then build on their skills from there. I have found this to be one of the most successful approaches to learning math.
One of my favorite stories is about a young girl who really struggled with math. She came to me at the end of her 4th grade year. She was below grade level by 2 plus years. Her confidence was so low that she didn't even want to try anymore. We took a step back to focus on basic number sense skills. From there we worked on more complex topics. We were able to advance her math level from grade 1 to grade 3 by the end of the summer. She is now performing at grade level and continues to flourish.
I am an ultra train runner. This means that I run races that are 26 miles plus on trails through the woods. I also love to mountain bike, paddle board, read, and be in nature.
